In 2017, a new map component was integrated into Innovative Security Manager™ (ISM). Its primary purpose was to free up ISM from existing map services on the market, where quality was not in line with price. The new ISM map server is based on OpenStreetMap (OSM).
An important part of an operational overview is having updated map material containing emergency data. ISM map server contains a maps and addresses database, updated four times a year, through the maintenance agreement of the software.
New data types
In connection with the ongoing updates, available relevant data is also added to the extent possible. The latest update contains significantly expanded data on the rail network, which includes a clearer classification of level crossings, as well as switchyards.
Extended data of highway boundary markers and numbering of beaches is also included in the newly released version.

The next updates will include aerial photographs, which, like the rest of the map material, are tile based and therefore obtained in the necessary amount for each emergency service in each map server.
Use your own local data as part of the map
In addition to always updated map data and continuous extensions of the basic map material, the use of an OSM server also means the ability to use your own data, which can be switched on and off at the control room as required.
This data may be data from the local GIS department, delimited areas for the different municipalities, or specific building drawings, such as large factory facilities or conference centers. At the same time, it is defined whether these specific layers should be displayed by clicking them on/off, or automatically via a pre-defined zoom level.
Innovative will be offering courses starting next fall on how to create map layers, so that ISM users can create them themselves.

The OSM map server is hosted locally and it can therefore contain specific data of the individual emergency services. Furthermore, there is no need for continuous browsing to external databases, which also means that each emergency service takes care with the security of their local data.
The OSM map server also provides a navigation module that can be used to calculate routes and driving time to a particular task. This module thus binds the OSM map server together with our interGATE4 solution for vehicles. The interGATE4 solution also uses map data from the OSM map server.
